STOP PRESS - CAPA 2008 CANCELLED - read more ...

Welcome to the website for the Clinical Aspects of Protein Assays (CAPA) meetings.

CAPA meetings developed from a commitment to education by the Supraregional Assay Service's Protein Reference Units. The first meetings were held in the 1980s at the University of York, where the programme focussed on lectures about proteins. Since then, the format has evolved and we now have a mixture of lectures and small group interactive workshops.

The topics that we cover have widened and we now include autoimmune serology, allergy, immune deficiency, cytokines, proteomics, quality assurance and managerial issues in addition to paraproteins, acute phase proteins and complement.

CAPA meetings are fairly small with approximately 300 participants (including organisers, speakers, delegates and corporate sponsors). This means that we all can stay in the same place (usually University accommodation) and dinners and social functions are attended by all. CAPA is always well supported by our colleagues in the corporate sector, whose valuable contributions make the meeting viable.

The CAPA organising committee work hard to provide a stimulating and informative meeting. The meeting packs include Protein Reference Unit Handbooks of Immunochemistry and of Autoimmune Serology and the CAPA workshop manual.

We are always fortunate enough to attract eminent speakers to share their knowledge and expertise with us. We ask our speakers to allow their slides to be available on the CAPA website where possible.

Finally, we always have an enthusiastic group of delegates who enter into the spirit of the CAPA meetings - to have an enjoyable and informative time!
